Apple has begun approving of browsers for the iPhone and iPod Touch developed by third party companies. Previously, Apple had said it wouldn't approve of or allow applications that duplicated the functionality of native iPhone applications. The first few browsers to be approved are called Edge Browser, Incognito, WebMate and Shaking Web. They range from free to $2. All of them are based on the same Webkit core as Apple's Safari, and add functionality to the existing Safari browser. The change doesn't necessarily mean that Apple will allow full browsers from other companies such as Opera or Firefox.
