Verizon recently announced its timeline for integrating recently-acquired Alltel into its network and business. Although the business deal was completed on Friday, re-branding won't begin until the second quarter of 2009, and will continue in phases through the third quarter, as billing system changes are completed. These billing system changes, when complete, will enable mobile-to-mobile calling minutes among both Verizon and former Alltel customers. Current Alltel customers can retain their current plans, including MyCircle, during the transition, and will receive a letter in the coming weeks explaining options for transitioning to Verizon. The "vast majority" of Alltel customers will be able to keep their current phones after the transition.
