3GPP Expects to Ratify LTE Standard in March 2009

The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has "frozen" the development of Long Term Evolution as part of Release 8. This means the LTE standard is essentially set, and the 3GPP will ratify the final version in March 2009. This won't stop the 3GPP from fine-tuning the standard to improve performance, but it will allow equipment manufacturers and network operators to move forward with their plans to deploy LTE networks. U.S. carriers AT&T, Verizon Wireless and others have committed to using LTE as their next-generation network technology.
