Today Sprint announced a new initiative with the hopes of convincing more developers to create mobile applications for Sprint devices. The open software platform is a standards-based mobile Java ecosystem that can help developers extend desktop computing and Web 2.0 features to Sprint phones. The platform supports MIDP Java ME applications and adds the CDC/Foundation Java Virtual Machine and OSGi framework. The platform also includes APIs to give developers access to Sprint-specific device features, such as location, messaging and multimedia. The Sprint Titan platform will be released first, supporting development for Sprint's Windows Mobile devices.
