Today the FCC voted to approve the creation of devices that can access white space spectrum. The FCC did not vote on how white space spectrum will be auctioned off, apportioned or sold. This vote merely allows device manufacturers to create equipment that can scan for for unused spectrum and match that to a user's location. It can then check to make sure no interference occurs. Any devices that do this would need ot be approved by the FCC, similar to the way mobile phones are approved.
