Sprint Nextel announced that it is going to "rejuvenate" its Nextel iDEN network. It decided that the iDEN network is a key asset, and it will do what is necessary to reinvigorate the Nextel services and brand. To that end, Sprint and Motorola have extended their commitments to one another. Sprint said it will launch 8 new iDEN phones during 2009. Sprint has strengthened the iDEN network with more cell towers. Sprint also mentioned that it is re-tooling its Boost Mobile pre-paid service. In early 2009, Boost Mobile plans to introduce Boost Unlimited on the iDEN network, offering a nationwide home calling area for one monthly fee. In light of this announcement, it is clear that Sprint no longer intends to sell the Nextel network.
