More Firms Join Symbian Foundation

The ranks of the Symbian Foundation continue to swell. Visa, Huawei, ARM and nine other companies recently joined the organization. These additions bring the total number of companies involved to 52. By joining the foundation, the companies will be given free access to Symbian software and development tools. Network operators and handset manufacturers expect the open source software to compete directly with Google's Android platform. Devices on the new Symbian-based platform are expected to hit the market in 2010.
