Appeals Court Tosses ITC Ban on Qualcomm Chips

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit vacated a ban against Qualcomm that prevented it from importing certain cell phone chips that infringed upon Broadcom patents. The ban was negated because the Appeals court decided that the International Trade Commission, which issued the ban, didn't have the authority to make a decision that impacted third parties (such as phone manufacturers and network operators) not involved in the dispute between Qualcomm and Broadcom. It has sent the case back to the ITC for further review.
