Today Sprint officially launched its long-anticipated WiMax network in the city of Baltimore. WiMax is Sprint's next-generation wireless data network, and it will be used to supply wireless broadband services, which Sprint says can deliver speeds between 2 and 4 Mbps. Initial data plans available will not require annual contracts and Sprint will offer monthly passes for $25 and daily passes for $10. One Xohm account will cover multiple devices. There is a range of WiMax modems available for sale, starting at $60. Sprint said that laptops and other devices with WiMax built in will be available later this year. Sprint also said that it will launch a dual-mode EVDO / WiMax device that can use both networks later this year. Sprint plans to launch more cities over time.
