Today Sprint officially launched its long-anticipated WiMax network in the city of Baltimore. WiMax is Sprint's next-generation wireless data network, and it will be used to supply wireless broadband services, which Sprint says can deliver speeds between 2 and 4 Mbps. Initial data plans available will not require annual contracts and Sprint will offer monthly passes for $25 and daily passes for $10. One Xohm account will cover multiple devices. There is a range of WiMax modems available for sale, starting at $60. Sprint said that laptops and other devices with WiMax built in will be available later this year. Sprint also said that it will launch a dual-mode EVDO / WiMax device that can use both networks later this year. Sprint plans to launch more cities over time.

It's not $25, it's $30!

First of all, I want to make it clear I'm not critisizing the price, I just saying it doesn't make any sense at all to develop a wireless network, and have one rate plan for @ home, and another rate plan for mobile use, that's what wireless means, Mobile!!!

Why the heck would anyone get service that is wireless for home use only?!!!!?

The $25 at home plan is for people who buy the modem, not a wireless card. The modem is quite large and if you look at XOHM's website, they give different coverage for wireless vs modem, which to me means that the modem probably trasmits at a higher p...

NO bandwidth CAP NO bandwidth throttling !!!!!

I called XOHM on 9/29/2008 at 5:00pm EST and asked if they had a 5GB CAP, bandwidth throttling 😁 , lower your speed like t mobile. AND HE SAID NO NO NO THEY DO NOT DO ANY OF THE ABOVE.

HOW AWESOME IS THAT O YEAH DA DA DA DA DA DA DA CAN’T CAP THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😁
Remember that this is a TEST and Sprint will likely shape their policies on pricing, caps, and bandwith restrictions based on the data they collect during the test.

The good thing is that there are no contracts involved, so if you don't like the ne...

I found out which cities are next, . . . not mine, boohoo!!!

I decided to actually go to the XOHM website, and well this is what I found out, these cities are next:

In the works:

Dallas, Fort Worth, Boston, Providence, Philadelphia

Heck, Las Vegas isn't even that big, it shouldn't be that hard to blanket Vegas with WiMax, I heard WiMax towers have a big range.

The very moment I hear Xohm is in Vegas, I'm going to find out where I gotta go (Sprint store's?) to get my aircard!!!!!!
As far as I know, Clearwire is handling Vegas.

This might become successful.

and bring sprint back into positive territory.
Heck for $25/mo how can it not be?!!! Screw all these $60/mo plans ATT & Verizon offer @ HALF the speeds.

I wonder when there will be speeds higher than 2-4mbps? Bring Xohm to Las Vegas damn it!!!
This definitely is a milestone for Sprint. Though it is only one city, other cities will soon follow. This is history in the making and a huge advancement in wireless opening up so much more what you will be able to do with your wimax equipped devices...

Maybe ATT should consider building that LTE network pretty soon...

Then they'll be on par.
I'd be shocked if ATT had an LTE networl launched any sooner than spring of 2010, heck they STILL haven't kicked HSPA into high gear yet.

What a lot of WiMax fans fail to take notice of is HSDPA is CAPABLE of 2-4mbps, just ATT is lagging in upgradi...

ONLY $25/mo!!!!!

I wonder if ATT & Verizon will take notice of the fact that they are RIPPING customers off. Half the speed for twice the much.

I really hope Xohm explodes, and I mean fast as in 30 plus cities in the next 6 months.

Go, go, go Xohm!!!!!
wow, so is THIS the true advantage of WiMAX over LTE?
