FCC to Vote On Spectrum Auction Rules Today

The FCC will vote today on the rules that will be placed on the unsold D-block spectrum from this year's 700 MHz spectrum auction. The D-block was reserved for a public safety network. The FCC has been mulling options for this set of airwaves since it failed to garner bids in the auction earlier this year. The FCC's new proposal has dropped the minimal price for national license down to $750 million from $1.3 billion. It also places a limit on the fees the public safety agency can charge the license owner at $5 million. The FCC hopes to hold the auction for this set of airwaves in early 2009.
