Today Privus Mobile announced a new service that increases the likelihood that incoming calls to cell lines can be identified via caller ID. Users of various BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphones can use the software, which costs $25 for three months or $90 for 12 months. Privus Mobile is a subsidiary of Accudata Technologies, and has access to many of the major telephone databases and directories, including those for cell numbers. Private blocked calls will remain private, but company name information or individual subscriber information will be displayed with a call whenever it is available. The application will also allow you to save any incoming calls directly to the smartphone's contact application complete with the caller ID information already entered.
Looks like they took a page out of at&t's book.....
they're just as bad as at&t charging 7 damn dollars for CID for a land line...still...today!!! like it's something brand new. they're out of their minds...i dont need name and number that bad. maybe if it was free or a one time charge for the software like $15. goodluck trying to get rich off that worthless crap. 🤣
Well they are leasing caller ID information from somewhere. Your monthly fees will help pay for that data. Or make them rich. Or something.
What they DON'T make obvious is ...
... Privus Caller ID info is dependent on your WAP/3G connection. If it's on when you get the phone call, and it's pretty darn quick, you will get caller ID info. The service pulls identifying info from a DB somewhere on the Net. If your WAP/3G is off, or if it is indeed slow WAP (instead of faster data like HSDPA or EVDO) then you may not get the caller ID info before you answer or it goes to VM.
Also, the caller ID info does not seem to be up to date. I called from my office phone, which normally gives the name of the company to phones with Calling Name Delivery, and on their service it just said "Texas" - which it used to say about 4 years ago.
Your kidding right ??!!
$90 for caller ID ??!! 😳 You have GOT to be kidding me !!! It was bad enough that back in the day you had to pay $1 a month for caller ID but $90 month for "advanced" caller ID is RIDICULOUS ... great idea but whoever thought of that price point, jeez.
Actually it's $90 for 12 months, not per month. So it basically comes out to $7.50/month. But I'm guessing you don't make monthly payments and just pay upfront when you get the app. 🙂
