Documents seen on the FCC web site reveal some details about the Sony Ericsson r306a. According to the documents, this clamshell phone has tri-band 850/1800/1900 radios, as well as Bluetooth. The FM and AM radios are a big component of this phone, which has external radio presets and channel changing controls. AM radios are not common to find in cell phones. The r306a also has a camera and can record video. No network operators have announced that they will carry this phone.

Who cares about AM and FM anymore?

I get satellite radio with my Sprint handset. Only At&t and Verizon customers would get excited about AM/FM on their handsets.
is your satellite radio on your sprint handset streaming radio or is it actual satellite broadcast?

How About This?

That the cell phone manufacturers include digital AM and FM AND the ability to receive HDTV over the air. Now that bring telephony into the new century! You know that Verizon and others that are planning TV by subscription on their phones, would never carry a handset that received free HDTV signals.

Seems Sony can't be original

To me this looks awfully similar to the LG Muziq and Fusic which both had a unique feature with the FM transmitter. Seems like Samsung isn't the only brand Sony is copying.

Verizon; Apple are YOU listening??

Imagine I'm your customer ... I'm at the beach, cell phone in hand, lstening to my RADIO (AM/FM, matters not). A song comes on - impulse buy (itunes)! Or simply enjoying time spent on "the most reliable network" (Verizon).

Oh, and I live in California. We have a "hands free" law ... other states will follow. It is important that (unlike LG phones), voice commands work with at least a 70% accuracy and include a "cancel" command.

710am ESPN radio baby!

bout time too!
That's exactly what I think of when I hear AM, except in my case it's ESPN 920.

I don't know what the deal is with cell phones only having FM, hopefully other manufactures will catch on!!!
