According to sources cited by Reuters, Virgin Mobile USA has agreed to purchase Helio from SK Telecom for an unknown sum. The deal is not final, but the two companies have agreed to loose terms. Virgin Mobile USA would purchase the 69% of Helio that SK Telecom owns, but no word was available on whether or not Earthlink will sell its share of Helio as well. Earthlink has a 28% stake in Helio. Under the initial terms of the agreement, SK Telecom would agree to invest a nominal amount of money in Helio once Virgin Mobile USA takes it over. Both Helio and Virgin Mobile USA have struggled to succeed. Combining the two wireless providers could prove beneficial to the merged entity.

I was going to say the same. I have always known Virgin to use Sprints network. I thought it was the same for Helio as well. I am not sure who their roaming agreements were with.

I called Helio customer service just a few minutes ago and the Helio rep had the nerve to say that Virgin mobile taking over is just speculation??? I told her that she is lying and everyone already knows whats up. I told her that I don't to deal with Virgin mobile and that I should be able to get out of my contract w/o paying an early term fee. She said I would still be charged...yeah right. Trust when I port my number to a new carrier(that will happen during Xmas holidays) they won't be charging me. What I think will happen is that they will customers the option to stay or we will be able to leave w/o paying ETF. I guess that chick was told by her sup not to admit to whats going on. Some of the Helio stores have already been closed s...

To get out without paying a ETF there has to be a change in the terms of service, and then you have one billing cycle.

Who cares as long as the phone works and services are the same?

What's Sprint gotta say about this?

Since, its a MVNO on their network.
It's a win, win situation.

What about the other 3%

SK Telecom owns 69% of Helio and Earthlink owns 28%. That leaves 3% unclaimed. Anyone know who owns that?
