German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom, parent company of T-Mobile USA, is currently mulling plans to buy Sprint Nextel. Sources indicated that the plans are in the earliest stages, and are not final. Sprint's current market capitalization is about $22 billion. If Deutsche Telekom were to acquire Sprint Nextel, the combined entities of Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile would create the largest wireless company in the U.S.

PLEASE DO!!!!

O.K. let's take a cellular company that has won the JD Power & Associates award numerous times for customer satisfaction (T-Mobile). Not to mention as far as US cellular carriers they have some of the if not the cheapest international roaming fees. And combine them with the 2nd biggest CDMA carrier (Sprint). It's a match made in heaven. You've got T-Mobile...enough said. And Sprint who's got QChat coming out (Due to the FCC complaining about interference from iDen) some very cool phones, plus a huge footprint within the US. I always root for the little guy, so Verzion look the hell out!
WOW...it seems as if someone always has to bring Verizon into the picture....I guess when your the BEST....you have a big target on your back... πŸ™„
...
I don't think it would be in Sprint's or T-Mo's best interest to merge. Just because T-Mo has the CS Dept. covered doesn't mean that it will work. Look at what happened to the merger with Nextel; Sprint was at the time one of the largest all digital ...

NO NO NO NO.....NOOO

Sprint Nextel is a an American company and they need to get their act together and turn things around. They need to fire the lazy losers working for them in the retail stores and hire some with half a brain, move customer service back to the United States. This way Americans can help Americans take back our businesses. Selling to a German Company or any other company should not be an option. So Mr CEO of Sprint, get your people to get off the sofa and turn things around. Sprint stock is at 8 bucks now, needs to be at 40 where it belongs, cause the company has 94 billion in assets...not sell for 22 billion....geeze
I think it's funny that you say they should fire "lazy loser working in the retail store" when we do a good job at selling. Acquiring customers has never been a problem with Sprint. It's been keeping them. So sales are not the problem, customer care i...

T-Mobile is far more "american" than Sprint. They may be a german company, but germans make up a large part of our country and are a part of our culture.

On the other hand Sprint is outsourcing work to India, with people who can barely speak englis...

The REAL problem with sprint nextel

I work for sprint and have for the past 5 years. I NEVER had the problems with sprint that i have now. The new billing system is nice but only for the nextel side. sprint accounts seem to not take so well to it. another thing i think is so funny is that where we are at, there are NO legacy sprint employees left at the corp level. everyone is legacy nextel. they either fired or pushed the old sprint people to radio shacks and wal-marts. i always though sprint bought nextel but sure seems like nextel took sprint to me.
CDMA accounts are smoothing out very well, people need to remember there are millions of customers that don't have issues, just because you get the calls from the ones that have problems doesn't mean the majority have the same thing happening.

Spr...

I don't know what area you are in, but it is the complete opposite here. They got rid of all the nextel people.

Well, in the field, where the rubber meets the road, all of the Nextel people are gone. They knew the business so much better than the Sprint people. When I was selling, Sprint Direct was no competition at all, while Nextel, if they could get their p...

SprinT-Mobile

Very interesting, we'd have a company with 82 million subscribers.

It would be a long time before they got their act together though. We'd see years of a massive cluster f***
I wouldnt talk to much against the mergers I ported alot of numbers to verizon from att cingular at there merge. Dropped calls, Dropped calls. Bottom line is merges arent always the best from the start

One company, not necessarily one carrier. The companies (brands and networks) could be kept separate.

Very smart move if they can pull it off!

Now I know a lot of people disagree with that, and I am going to try and discuss everything that people have brought up.

1. People are saying that US regulators wouldn't allow it... Well those same regulators were very upset with the FCC for how they handled the 700mhz spectrum because they saw that as the last opportunity for a new player to enter the US wireless market... Well that didn't happen, and the strongest (at&t and Verizon) just got stronger. Having T-mobile and Sprint combine would actually increase competition, because as I'm sure you all know, AT&T and Verizon both have the same pricing, and there is not really any true competition there. Sprint and T-Mobile both have great competition with unlimited plans, my faves, and hot...

Two wrongs don't make a right

We learned that from the Sprint/Nextel Merger.
Yes, let's put THREE incompatible networks under one company and see how that works.
...
And a wrong and a right generally tend to cancel each other out.

T-Mobile though is certainly not a wrong. How could you say that? Number 2 rated by consumer reports, number 1 by JD Powers, Number 1 for customer care, and the most innovative carrie...

may be necessary for sprint to stay afloat...

http://www.rcrnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20 ... »

either way this is a much bigger deal than most of us think...sprint is going nowhere without a buyout, since so one is going to invest in them anymore. mutual funds that hold this stock are going to bail, and no new investors will buy shares...not a good sign for a publicly traded company. any thoughts?

ok quick ????

why do you guys care soo much? honestly unless you have stock on it, they dont really care what you say. economically it works out on both companies favor if they do. sprint would get a whole bunch of german CEO's that know how to run a company and fix all of sprints glitches and DK would get free airspace that they really need in the US. they would be able to absorb more customers and have hybrid phones that would not only work great here in the states with CDMA as their american system for data but have GSM for their global communication. they are going to do something that everyone was thinking but hasnt done. im not for or against it, im just saying that it wouldnt be a life and death move, it would just be another company takeover. this...

OMFG

i wonder if la Google would be down for some partnership deals here.

t-mo wouldnt have to proceed with plans for their own 4G.

This would be tricky since sprint has chosen WiMax as its 4G evolution. the parent company DT has chosen LTE, if im not mistaken...

ahh, the possibilities are endless

What happened to Google Wireless?

A T-Mobile purchase of Sprint would be interesting. To merge the two customer service groups together would be a nightmare to say the least. GSM or CDMA? $22 Billion is not a bad price to acquire 50+ million customers. Would this spark a bidding war? Will Google make a bid on Sprint? Or, will they just say they are going to do something, then not make a single bid, just like the last spectrum auction. If you are in the market to buying Sprint stock... then now would be a good time to buy, and then sell it when it hits $10- $12.

Thanks for the heads up WSJ.
Google Bid. They just bid the minimun to get open access. They played it smart.

Yea that wouldn't be good.....

Even though I'm a T-Mobile employee and the thought makes me laugh. I agree that Sprint needs to quit being a jackass and fire ALL the idiots and bring the customer service back to the united states. The last thing we need is another company no matter how disgraceful...lol going to another country.

maybe not a merger

maybe TM isn't planning to merge the companies, at least not right away, like Sprextel did...maybe TM would acquire them, fix the bugs in the company, consolidate the various nework technologies and then merge into one company down the road.

also, any one else find it funny that TMobster isn't in here shoutin and screaming yet? πŸ™„
Tmobster is busy filling out a application for sprint 😳 😳 😳 🀣 🀣

The Biggest gain here is...Spectrum

They would gain so much 1900Mhz spectrum, and it would allow them to have 3G 1900MHz phones to go along with their AWS spectrum.

HMMM.......that would be weird.....I think it would be a bad move....
Not necessarily. I mean there could be better partnerships. TM needs bandwidth, they would gain that. Migrating people off and onto gsm from cdma. DT has deep pockets and combine that with a crap dollar.
