Tessera has built a new type of camera phone lens technology called OptiML Zoom that can provide up to 3x optical zoom with no actual moving parts. It achieves this with a combination of a new lens design and algorithms that replace a standard optical zoom lens's mechanical functions. Tessera's lens contains no moving parts, and can be made smaller, and cheaper than current optical zoom modules.
