NFC Standards Approved for Mobile Phone Use

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute has accepted the GSMA's near field communications technical specifications. The organizations have all agreed on the software protocols necessary to operate the communications between the SIM card and the phone's NFC chip. Now that the standard has been approved, mobile phones with NFC chips can be made in large volumes, and network operators will be able to deploy contactless payment services that use NFC technology.
