Sanyo has agreed to sell its troubled mobile phone division to Kyocera for $375 million. The deal includes Sanyo's handset manufacturing operations and sales channels in Japan and abroad. Kyocera will keep the Sanyo brand on handsets designed and manufactured by the Sanyo division. It hopes this acquisition will help it expand its penetration in foreign markets such as the U.S., where it has struggled. This will make mobile phones Kyocera's largest business internally. It will offer the 2,000 full-time Sanyo mobile employees jobs at Kyocera. The deal is expected to close on April 1.
