AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson told reporters at a recent meeting that a 3G version of the Apple iPhone will be available in 2008. He said he could not verify exactly when the 3G version of the iPhone will be available, or how much it will cost, only that it will be available sometime next year. He noted that the recent improvements in power needs of 3G chips will play a part in bringing the 3G iPhone to market. He did not state which type of 3G radios or what frequencies will be included. Apple has not officially announced any new versions of the iPhone.

wow

sweet people wasting more money... good for Apple 🤨
How is it wasting money if people are happy with EDGE+WiFi+Longer battery life? Did people who purchase a DVD movie when Blu-Ray or HD-DVD movies are clearly the future waste their money? Remember even with the release of the 3G iPhone that there will...

Yeah but knowing Apple:

1) you still won't be able to replace the battery yourself.

2) the phone still won't support MMS.

3) the 3G radio won't work if you have any 3rd party apps installed.

4) if you try to use 3G to download MP3s from an...

feb 2008? this would be bad.

To release a newer version of the iPhone in Feb 2008 would be a bad move. This would mean that the shelf life of the current iphone is less than a year. Every business knows that a product that has a shelf life of less than a year is considered a loss. Apple would be making a wrong move in releasing a 3g equipped iPhone in Feb. Now, the end of '08 would be ideal or maybe the beginning of '09.

A possible minor redisign is likely to take place. '08 is just too soon. This i'm sure would make a lot of people upset.

*i do not own an iphone.
Actually I think it would be a very smart move on their behalf. There are so many people, I think, that did not get the iPhone specifically because it was not a 3G phone and it was on AT&T's slow EDGE network. That includes myself. I am used to Verizo...

I have a friend that works on the tech side of AT&T. He told me 2 months ago to hold off on the current iPhone. He said that a 3G version would be in Feb. of 2008.

That soon you think??

So I take it the 3G update will not be a firmware upgrade, it will be an entirely different model phone?

I wonder if anything else will change with the new model (Storage space, removable battery, MMS, design, QWERTY keyboa...

i may just have to buy one and jailbreak it

sounds good to me.
You mean you may have to buy one and UNLOCK it, not jailbreak it. Those words are not synonymous.

Nice shot at expanding the vocab though!
