Today Verizon announced four new handsets, including three feature phones and a smartphone. They are the LG VX10000 Voyager, Verizon's flagship feature phone, the LG VX8800 Venus, the Samsung U470 Juke and BlackBerry Pearl 2. All four will be available at different times during the fourth quarter before Thanksgiving. Prices were not announced.

  • LG VX10000 Voyager: The Voyager is a messaging device derived from the enV, but features a large touch screen and new user interface on the front. The touch screen provides haptic feedback and has revised menus to access the phone's many features. Like the enV, it opens sideways to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, large interior screen, and stereo speakers. It has EV-DO data, a full HTML browser with minimap, stereo Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera, and a microSD slot that supports cards up to 8GB. It is also compatible with Verizon's V CAST Mobile TV service.
  • LG VX8800 Venus: The Venus is a dual-screen slider. The top screen is a regular display and the bottom screen is a touch screen navigation area that replaces the navigation cluster. It is interactive and the menus change depending on which screen or application you are using. It also offers haptic feedback. Like the Voyager, the Venus also has EV-DO data, stereo Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera, and support for up to 8GB in the microSD slot. It will come in black and pink.
  • Samsung u470 Juke: The Juke is a narrow, switch-blade style spinner that provides basic music and calling features. It has a rotating dial that is used to navigate and make selections. It is small, but squeezes in 2GB of internal memory for storing music. The music player can be launched without opening the phone. It offers a VGA camera, 1xRTT data, stereo Bluetooth, and will come in three colors.
  • RIM Pearl 2: The Pearl 2 is a CDMA version of the Pearl, which was released last year. Its major updates include EV-DO data, a 2 Megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, and integrated GPS. The microSD slot has been moved from under the battery to the side of the phone. The browser and mail program have been updated slightly in appearance.
