What would you do?

If you were hired to design the next Nextel handset... what would it be like? I'm curious to find out what most people really want from their Nextel phones that they don't have already and ALSO which Nextel features they would keep.

1) Make ALL iDEN ruggedized phones water-resistant. I THOUGHT my i560, being a Nextel built to MIL-810F, was water-resistant; it is not. Set it on the shampoo shelf in the shower once (no direct hit of water, just some splashing up there), two days la...

Talk About Beaten to Death...

Everyone is quick to point out how the Razr design has been beaten to the ground but what about the iDen Moto Nextels? Are they not the most boring/ugly phones on the planet or what? It's nice to know that while other phone are becoming more pleasing to the eye, Nextel is sticking to what made them suck in the first place, their crappy handsets.
Ugly? Yes.

Crappy? Try again.

They might not be what you are looking for in a handset, but the fact of it is that Nextel formed a niche market with large corporations, contractors, and things of the like...with..."crappy" handsets.

Actually, ...

you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. As the other responder said, the Nextel phones, while not sexy, are QUITE solid.

Really so all these mechanical engineers who use Nextel are push-overs? You have to remember these are MILITARY GRADE PHONES. Name one phone that have passed military standards that looks like the razor. In fact name one for any carrier that doesn't l...

What more could you ask for?

Hey these tough phones have enough style for me. Heck feel spoiled, at least they have colored screens. LOL. Being serious I've never had Nextel, but bet your @$$ I would if I needed a tough phone.
...Well, winning that million bucks Sprint is giving away for picking the winning NASCAR driver would be nice, but I'll just stick with realistic requests.

The i602 should be a hot seller

People are looking for a camera phone option in the "Hybrid" family thats not 300+ with contract.
They'll sell all 7 to a family of Hicks up in the mountains in West Virginia. No one has nextel any more. You want PTT, come to AT&T. We have better PTT phones than anyone...
8525, BB Pearl, BB Curve, BB 8800, Moto v365 & LG CU400!!!

PDA phones anyone???

When is Nextel gonna drop some new pda devices? I know they have BBs but not everybody wants one of those. Something like a sidekick with walkie-talkie would appeal to a lot of people IMHO. I had nextel, but after waiting months for something new to come out, i moved over to Sprint to get the Mogul and I couldn't be happier, unless Nextel drops a Mogul with PTT of course!
Unfortunately the iDEN technology is Motorola-designed. The only exception have been the two blackberries that have been made for iDEN (and I believe at a hefty cost to RIM), but otherwise it's been Moto all the way. Blackberry might do a new iDEN b...

the i290, i425 and the i876

they should be listed on here as well

the i290 is a slim replacement to the i265 and the i425 is a slim replacement to replace the i415 on boost (essentially the boost variant of the i290)

the i876 is the i870 without the mp3 player and slimmer to replace the i850
I didn't know Moto made so many Iphones.. Now I know where Apple stole this idea, just like all their others. Jobs needs to stop stealing ideas, geeze. 🤣

J2ME or Linux

Anyone know when Sprint is coming out with their Linux phone? Moto is suppose to have an iDEN Linux phone. Thanks in advance.
Moto is changeing there OS to a linux based system but it will probably not come till WiMAX is out.

They also look old. Like circa 2002. But rugged is nice, sometimes.

Why a new non-hybrid iDEN handset?

I cant understand why Moto is continuing to produce these? I hope they just had a bunch in the pipeline from years ago and are just now starting to run out. The goal is to move voice off of iDEN, right? This surely doesn't help.
/end rant
Because Moto doesn't care about moving off of the iDen network.. Sprint does.
