AT&T Looks Beyond HSPA

AT&T Vice President Chris Hill today revealed the carrier is looking to build out an LTE network for next generation voice and high speed data. Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the GSM Association's next specification beyond HSPA. It offers fast data speeds like mobile WiMax and is expected to be easier to deploy in large networks. The carrier has not announced when they will begin building out the new network, but it is part of a $20 billion project expected to take up to 10 years to complete. AT&T has previously committed to upgrading its current HSDPA network to HSUPA in the near future.
