Nokia Siemens has developed a new technology that will allow operators to squeeze more data in the same amount of spectrum should they upgrade their network using Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. LTE is is the proposed successor to HSPA technology. Nokia Siemens' improvement to the standard allows the network to receive high-speed data transmissions from many phones at once in the same spectrum, emulating MIMO, but with only one antenna per phone. Using this Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) technology, Nokia Siemens achieved a 160 Mbps downlink with a simultaneous 108 Mbps uplink.
