Sun Microsystems Snaps Up SavaJe

Sun Microsystems has agreed to acquire the intellectual property assets of SavaJe, a company which produced a Java-based cell phone operating system. Sun did not reveal any specifics about the transaction, but did note that more information will become available at the JavaOne Conference in San Francisco, May 8-11. SavaJe launched in 2001 with the intent of providing a customizable platform for cell phones based on Sun's Java language. In its short life, SavaJe's platform was only used for two phones, an LG model and the SavaJe Jasper S20. It's unknown if either phone made it to market. Sun has not indicated what it will do with SavaJe's assets.
