Sprint Faces Off Against Hip MVNOs

Sprint today began offering new calling plans in the San Francisco Bay area designed to take on MVNOs like Helio and Amp'd. Sprint will offer two Unlimited Access plans. The first offers unlimited voice calls, messaging, and on-phone browsing for $120 per month. A second adds unlimited data access on a PC as well, using the phone as a modem for $150 per month. Amp'd offers a plan with unlimited calling, messaging, and browsing for $150 per month, however that does not include PC data access. Helio offers several "all in" calling plans which provide unlimited messaging and browsing, but not unlimited calling. Although Sprint is supposed to offer these unlimited plans in the San Francisco area, they are not yet available on line when entering local zip codes.

Sprint is in Rough Shape....

Sprint is in a sad state of affairs. They just recently announced a layoff of 5,000 employees and reported a net loss of subscribers in the 4th qtr 2006. How do you lose customers during the Christmas season?

They have pulled out all the stops when it comes to attacking Cingular and other companies with their childish advertising strategies. And they now feel as though they have to change their rate plans to compete with MVNOs!

I guess they should have done their homework before their joint venture with Nextel, because now its down to the big 2 with Sprint fading fast.

Sprint is in very good shape actually. I'd recommend you do some research when it comes to the layoff. That was done solely for reducing redundancies post-merger.

Sprint is far from sad shape. Their 3G network and content is the best in the business by far. They did add 2.6 million customers which is quite respectable. They are undergoing an extremely complicated merger of billing and ordering systems and these...

MVNO Uses Sprint dont they?

Why is Sprint basically in competition with cutting prices with itself. I just dont understand... the company (sprint) leases the network to Helio, so why are they cutting prices to match them? that sounds dumb to me

"Unlimited" is a relative term

I bet if you use the phone as your only ISP for a computer Sprint is going to hate you. Wasn't the term "unlimited" limited to 50 or so MB before.

😳 Hope we get this in the Sacramento 😁 What a plan, its like the bundle offerings from att, but the bundle is all on your phone! If sprint went nationwide in this offering, in combination with their powerful music phones, it could take a lot of steam away from the iPhone release.
