Insolvent BenQ Mobile, previously one of the world's top sellers of mobile phones, will be broken up and completely liquidated. With the last potential bidder for the company's assets withdrawing its interest, BenQ feels there is no future for the brand and will shutter its doors. BenQ Mobile was originally the mobile phone division of Siemens and employed 3000 people. Through a series of missteps, the company lost market share quickly to Nokia and Sony Ericsson and was eventually sold to Taiwan-based BenQ. BenQ stopped supporting the company in September 2006 when the division declared bankruptcy.
