SanDisk Reveals 4GB microSDHC

It may not be the first such card, but SanDisk is sampling a 4GB microSDHC card to handset OEMs and network operators. 4GB is enough to store a large number of songs, photos and MPEG4 video. With that much storage capacity, any decent media player-enabled phone that accepts SDHC standard cards could be a serious competitor to Apple's iPhone (the $499 model has 4GB of storage). SanDisk said the card would be available "later in 2007." Most phones today cannot yet accept SDHC cards and are limited to 2GB. The MOTORIZR Z8, announced yesterday, can accept SDHC cards. SanDisk also revealed its microSD Multi SD kit (pictured), which could help eliminate some confusion among storage card shoppers. The kit includes a microSD card (where files are actually stored) and miniSD and Standard SD adapters, allowing the card to fit just about any phone that accepts SD cards. The kit comes in 512MB, 1GB and 2GB sizes. The kit will be available in March, no word on pricing.
