CSR To Mix GPS Into Bluetooth

Bluetooth chipmaker CSR will soon introduce a single chip Bluetooth + GPS solution. CSR bought two navigation technology companies - NordNav and Cambridge Positioning Systems - and will integrate their technology into its chips by combining their GPS software and CSR's Bluetooth software. CSR claims that by combining the two, not only will manufacturers save space and power, but also money. CSR believes the new chips will only cost about $1 more than current Bluetooth chips. The company claims its combined GPS solution will work better indoors and in urban canyons. Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic all use CSR's Bluetooth chips, and Nokia has already begun integrating GPS into its smartphones.
