Cingular To Upgrade HSDPA To 7.2 Mbps Next Year

According to an official from Qualcomm, Cingular is set to launch even faster HSDPA in 2007, possibly as early as next month. The carrier will upgrade to a maximum download speed to 7.2 Mbps to the network, though with HSDPA upload remains capped at 384 Kbps. The faster speeds will only be available to users with new data cards, just as 3.6 Mbps is only available to cards users now. Cingular's handsets are still limited to 1.8 Mbps downloads. A number of companies including Option and Novatel have recently announced 7.2 Mbps HSDPA capable cards would be shipping soon, adding further credence to Qualcomm's statement.
