During an earnings call today, Crown Castle confirmed it will launch the Modeo mobile TV service in New York City before the end of the year. This confirms earlier statements made by the company. Crown Castle CEO John Kelly also stated that DVB-H handsets would be available for Cingular and T-Mobile subscribers in New York City at launch. However Kelly did not make it clear if the handsets will be offered through the carriers or if Modeo will offer them unlocked GSM phones. Neither carrier has announced a partnership with Modeo, however T-Mobile has announced it will run a trial with competitor Hiwire in Las Vegas.
