Sprint Begins Revision A Rollout

Sprint today launched EV-DO Revision A in San Diego, and with it has begun its official rollout of the faster 3G data service. Higher data speeds are now available at no additional cost to data subscribers with one of four cards: Novatel S720 and U720, Pantech PX-500, and Sierra Wireless Aircard 595. Customers with those cards can expect 450-850 kbps download and 400-700 kbps upload in San Diego. Sprint expects to launch Revision A upgrades in additional markets this year and complete their upgrade network-wide by third quarter of 2007. Sprint will launch upgraded data networks in the following cities before the end of the year: Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Denver, Detroit, Hartford, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York City, Newark/Trenton, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Sprint is again the first to the industry with a new data technology.
Verizon, Cingular, nobody can touch that.

And if I recall, Sprint wasn't the first to EV-Do Rev. 0, Verizon was.

I don't get you people...

Who care who was first US carrier the have the first high speed data network. I don't understand people who where their brands on their sleeves. Don't you realize the large coporations have you right where you want them when you do that?

If you use cingular and you're happy, GREAT! Keep using it. If your happy with sprint, GREAT! I think people should stop so blindly falling in love with products and start being wiser consumers who don't fall so easily to marketing.

I found these numbers on a reliable website and backed up these numbers with about three other sources.

EV-DOrA: 450-800kbs (with burst speeds of 3mbs)

EVDOr0 is available to 158 Million Customers
EVDOrA will be available to 158 Million next year.

When not under EVDO coverage, expect speeds of 144kbs (1xRTT)

What happened to "Up to 6.0 mbps"?

I swear there was a press release not too long ago that stated Rev A would be capable of providing up to this speed, to be comparable to cable broadband. Maybe I'm losing it.

Only a 50mbps increase at minimum is somewhat depressing.

3.1 Mbps peak downlink is the most I've ever seen touted for rev. A, and that's been the peak rate consistently since it was announced, AFAIK. If you saw 6, it had to be a typo.

correction

i belive
SK telecom (owner of Helio) was the first carrier to start HSDPA in the world . now the KTF (another south korea carrier will begin HSDPA nationwide in korea by next spring )
and SK will rollout 4G service around 2009, probably first in the world

Sprint is only in North America so when comparing worldwide technologies, please remember that Sprint can't release a technology in korea or japan, or anywhere.
