A judge for the International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that Qualcomm has infringed on one of Broadcom's patents for cellular chips. Broadcom filed with the ITC alleging the Qualcomm had infringed on three patents, however the judge only ruled they infringed on one. The judge's ruling is subject to review by the entire commission, and can also be appealed in federal court. This is only a small part of an ongoing battle between the two companies that is taking place in many courts throughout the US and Europe. Broadcom has accused Qualcomm of infringing on 18 of their patents, while Qualcomm claims Broadcom has infringed on 10.
