At the CTIA show in LA this week, a new Windows Mobile device from HTC was revealed and HTC executives confirmed several key details about the device. The phone, code-named Libra has both a traditional numeric keypad and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The phone is significantly smaller than current HTC devices with a slide-out keyboard; it is closer in size to a typical bar-style feature phone. The QWERTY keyboard has only three rows of keys, to accommodate the smaller device size. The Libra will be available in a CDMA version in Q1 next year, with support for EVDO Revision A high-speed data. A GSM version is also planned for next year. Although revealed at the UTStarcom booth, the phone is expected to be distributed by HTC and branded by carriers.

No D-pad?

There is no directional pad on the phone and no Arrow keys on the keyboard? Is that weird, or is it just me?
Must mean its a touch screen...

All signs point to Sprint!

PPC 6700 is set to got EOL in October. Sprint has already publicly stated it's EV-DO Rev.0 and Rev. A deployment schedule. Verizon is still kinda quiet about it's Rev. A timetable.
The Libra was listed on a Verizon Roadmap document that was leaked a month or so ago to the internet. Further Verizon is being Quiet about Rev A just as they were about EVDO, but that doesn't mean that It will not launch Rev A before or Better than S...

Alltel rep stated today that the LIBRA will be comming sometime in mid-February. The device will have a 2mp camera, WIFI, blue tooth and caller ID announced into your blue-tooth headset (sweet) They will be utilizing sprints data network for high-speed data transfer. It seems this device will be a star!

Does anyone have any release updates for this PDA

I can't wait until this phone goes GA. Does anyone know the time frame for release?
This is supposedly an internal Verizon memo. It suggests the Libra will be coming to them in January. I have a Samsung i730 and I found this link on the forum on www.pdaphone.com

I make no claims of the veracity, I am simply passing on gossip. T...

sounds good but.......

.....if sprint picks it up, will it have the power vision package in these unlike the 6700 which lacked those options. it had EVDO speed but it didnt have the good stuff........
You are referring to the OnDemand and Sprint TV stuff I presume. Sprint would love those items to be on Pocket PCs, but there is a compatibility issue... it is Windows after all.

I hope that sprint pics this up it I like the idea of having the normal keypad on the front. It would be an ideal upgrade to my 6700

Does anyone konw if this phone will also have wi-fi built into it's functionality? I orginally had teh 6700 but hated it so i switched to a Treo 700, but konw i want to switch back the HTC after seeing this model. I wonder if/when will this enter into VZW's market.......i cant wait for it. 🙂
Yeah, we know. Neveremind the fact that there's only been one report on the phone and the manufacturer wouldn't even comment on it, but we know all about it. Here's a full spec list:

I wish...

HTC would create a phone like that for Cingular... The dial pad is a great fix for not having to use the touch screen.

😎
Well, it does say in the article that a GSM version is also planned for next year.

What I'm curious about is how Palm is going to handle HTC's threat to it's Treo market, because I think that HTC makes much, much better products than Palm! ! !

I agree....but i can't wait so it's going to be the 8525 or the E62

Would be an awesome phone if it also had WiFI

I think that this phone would be an awesome phone if it also came with WiFi built in. Hence, this phone can be used areas where there is WiFi access but no EVDO in the area

please...answer...this...question...

What exactly is 'THEMES' in a phone? Thanks.
Themes is a change in the menu enviroment...

Change of colors or the way each folder looks or even the animations of switching between folders..

Basicly the menus and functions are all the same just look and act differnt..

You notice this ext...

I so hope that...

this phone would be on Verizon. I have the 6700 for Verizon and I love it. The only draw back is that while I'm on the road it's hard for me to dial with the touch screen. This new phone would fix that problem. Also, don't you think that a touch screen AND thumb wheel would be more innovating if PDA's had that feature? One last hope of mine is if this phone had the Wifi feature. I get Wifi at my home and work. So, why would I pay for "milk" when I get the WIFI at home and work?
All these are hopes of mine. But only time will tell.

Are you kidding when you say thin?

I've yet to see an HTC PPC PDA phone that is thinner than 3/4".

When HTC starts making full PPC phones that are more like the http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=1399 77 I'll take interest.

Two things that would make this review great - the dimensions of the phone and if some tested to find out if HTC has actually improved the quality of their crappy BT units. Read through pdaphonehome - find out how many people are pissed about the BT in all the HTC products.
Who said anything about 'thin'? 😕 We only said "small". I have no indication of how thin it is. We haven't seen it in person yet, just heard a few things from HTC, and there's that photo... that's all we know.
...
The Magician and Prophet were both thinner than .75" and I believe the upcoming Trinity is somewhere in that range.

Anyone notice?

Anyone notice the one in the background closed is all silver and the one in the forground open is black and silver? Could be the Sprint one Vs the Verizon one, or could be a bad pic or lighting...
It would be like the 6700. The VZW one is black & silver so....
