Qualcomm today announced a new chip that can work with three different mobile TV systems. The Universal Broadcast Modem (UBM) can receive signals using Qualcomm's FLO standard, as well as DVB-H and ISDB-T. The chip will allow manufacturers to make a single handset that can be customized by carriers around the globe for whichever TV standard an operator chooses. The UBM is designed to work in conjunction with Qualcomm's MSM 3G chipsets. Qualcomm expects samples of the UBM to be available to manufacturers in early 2007.
