Verizon Reaches E911 Milestone

Verizon today announced that more than 95% of its subscribers are now using a location-capable handset. It is the first national CDMA carrier to reach this goal set by the FCC. Though Verizon has done its part, making sure that location-capable handsets are in most its subscribers' hands, local emergency call centers still need to make upgrades to be sure emergency callers can be found. To date only one-third of call centers in the US can work with Verizon's aGPS location system.

THATS F'd UP!!!

the FCC forces the carriers to make sure most of its consumers are e911 compatable but doesnt rush the 911 call centers to become compatable with the tech that the carrier uses. 😕

am i missing something?
nope...that's about right. example using the FCC:

FCC doesn't talk to DHS doesn't talk to FBI doesn't talk to CIA doesn't talk to NSA doesn't talk to anybody.

see? it's beauracracy at it's finest.

Sort of. The call-center issue isn't up to the FCC. States and localities fund and run local 911 call centers, and so far most of them have had trouble finding money for th...
