FCC Delays AWS Auction

Five weeks before the the FCC was expected begin selling 1122 wireless licenses, the agency has delayed the auction until August 9. The FCC claims that bidders needed more time to prepare for the auction. This is possible as entrants like Leap have said they need to sell off stock to raise money for the auction. However it is also possible the delay is designed to give the FCC time to negotiate, or fight, with companies upset over changes to the designated entity rules. Three small companies have threatened to sue over the changes, despite the fact that the changes were designed to aid small carriers and network providers. Large carriers, which the designated entity changes will hit hardest, are siding with the FCC's new rules and want the auction to begin as soon as possible.
