Sprint today revealed all the details surrounding the upgrade of its data network to EV-DO Revision A. As announced last week, the enhanced data network will go live in the first quarter of 2007. It will not roll out city by city as Sprint's Release 0 upgrades did, rather nearly all of Sprint's EV-DO network will be upgraded to Rev. A by launch. Subscribers will not see that much of an increase in download speeds. Although the peak rate of Rev. A increase from 2 to 3 Mbps, typical data rates will only increase from 400-700 Kpbs to 450-800. The upgrade will more significantly affect upload speeds which should increase from 70-144 Kbps to 300-400 Kbps. Sprint will begin selling Rev. A capable data cards in the third quarter, which is when the Sierra Wireless card announced earlier is due to ship. EV-DO Revision A handsets will most likely not be sold until much closer to launch.
