Sierra Wireless yesterday announced the EV-DO Revision A capable AirCard 595, along with a mini card designed to be embedded into laptops and other data devices. Using Revision A, the 595 will double download speeds to 3.1 Mbps and increase upload by a factor of 10 to 1.8 Mbps. The card is backwards compatible with EV-DO Rel. 0 and 1xRTT data in areas where Rev. A is not available. Sierra states the card is scheduled for commercial shipment in the third quarter, hinting that CDMA carriers may be rolling out their data upgrades before the holiday shopping season in at least some markets.
