Senators Introduce Bill To Punish Sale of Phone Records

Three Senators yesterday introduced a bill that would make it a felony for anyone to obtain phone records illicitly. The bill criminalizes more than the records dealers who were brought to light last week, it would also punish carrier employees caught selling records without authorization as well. The bill is not just for cell phone records but landline and even VOIP calls as well. The FCC is also investigating the practice, however it is focusing on the carriers instead. It wants to be sure the carriers are complying with existing rules that govern the protection of subscriber data.
