Philips Bringing TV To US Phones

Philips will be a part of bringing TV to mobile phones in the US. The company said it will have DVB-H chipsets in phones arriving on US shores next year. DVB-H is the standard that broadcasts a pocket sized version of regular TV channels on a frequency separate from cellular operations. DVB-H is already in testing here and in Europe and is expected to launch in Europe before the World Cup begins next summer. Philips expects handsets will launch here some time after that during 2006. Recently Verizon announced they would not use DVB-H as rumored, but would offer subscribers TV using Qualcomm's FLO technology beginning in 2006 as well.

Yall don't pay attention!

Did yall not read the part about it being integrated into the phones?! That means the carrier will not be involved. Philips is working with the cell phone manufacturers, who make the phones. This service will not be a add-on service like Mobi-TV. This will be more like how more and more FM radio phones are being introduced. If you notice the Nokia 6101 has FM radio built-in, this is what Philips is trying to do with TV. Finally, TV being added to the cell phones. I can't wait.

Wow! TV on my phone. I can't wait. Just watch soon you'll be able to flip through 500 channels from anywhere and still there will be nothing on TV.

i think it would be sprint probably doing this, according to article verizon wont either. (Recently Verizon announced they would not use DVB-H as rumored)

although i cannot prove it, the fact that phones with this chipset are launching in europe first seems to indicate this will come to the us on GSM networks. my money might be on t-mo just because i could see them using it to offer advanced media servi...
