NTP's Case Against RIM Moves Forward

A US District Court today issued a significant judgement in the NTP's patent suit against RIM. The court has ruled that RIM's previous offer of a $450 million settlement is not enforceable, sending the companies back to court to settle the case. Judge James Spencer has also refused to stay the case any further, and will set a hearing date to begin proceedings on the remaining patent violations handed back by the appeals court. Further details of today's ruling have been sealed by the court. The judge has not yet made a decision on NTP's request for an injunction on the sales and service of RIM devices, however RIM feels such an injunction is unlikely. RIM is continuing efforts to appeal the case to the US Supreme Court, however they recognize it is unlikely the court will hear the case.
