Research in Motion (RIM) is preparing to update most of its BlackBerry lineup over the next 6 months, according to FCC documents and credible information that has surfaced over the past month. The BlackBerry 7100i (pictured) was just approved by the FCC, and brings the compact new 7100-series design to iDEN networks, including Nextel. The 7100i features Bluetooth, PTT, and an oversize speakerphone. The company is also preparing a BlackBerry 7130, which will bring the 7100 series to CDMA networks. Meanwhile, the 7100 series for GSM is due for an update with the 7105 for T-Mobile, and there are persistent rumors of a next-generation BlackBerry 8700 series with EDGE high-speed data. RIM just last week announced a deal with Intel for chipsets with EDGE.

disgrace

this is just a disgrace... a Blackberry with a retractable antenna... what is this world coming to???
All iDEN phones have retractable antennas, including all BlackBerrys. It's pretty much required for iDEN technology.

Check out the 6510, 7510, and 7520 - they are all BlackBerrys with retractable antennas.

any idea on release date for nextel?

i just started with a new company and need access to nextel direct connect. I want my phone to sync to my computer and to have bluetooth. it seems my only option is the 7520, but if this phone is coming soon i would buy a cheap phone and wait on my other desired features.

anyone have an idea on a release date?
any assistance would be great.

thanx

it is supposed to be here this quarter 4 if not it will be here quarter 1 of 2006.

i have the 7520, and it is a great tool to use. i think it could be close to the 7520, however, i think it will be a bit highier in price point.
Soon. This month or next... 🙂

has nextel decided to add text messaging to this one?!

the absolute most aggravating part about having a nextel blackberry is the lack of basic text messaging functionality
it wouldn't be that it's a crappy device on a soon to be extinct network... 😈
