Last of NTP's Patents Rejected

The US Patent Office (USPTO) yesterday rejected the last of NTP's 8 patents in an initial ruling. NTP has brought RIM and Blackberry licensees to court for violating the company's patents on mobile email. Many have settled with NTP but RIM itself has not yet paid the settlement, waiting instead for final judgement from the USPTO. Although it is not common, yesterday's rejection of NTP's patents could be reversed in final judgement. However based on a filing buy RIM that predates NTP's and other prior examples, the initial ruling is expected to stand.
