Verizon today announced that owners of the LG VX8100 can bring their phone into Verizon stores for a software upgrade. The upgrade will allow users to load mp3s onto a memory card and play them back on the phone. The VX8100 features music playback controls beneath the phone's external screen, but shipped without an mp3 player. It is rumored the phone will be compatible with Verizon's music download service when it launches early next year. Verizon is clearly bracing itself for the buzz that will be created by the launch of Motorola's iTunes phone on Cingular.
