Sprint and Nextel today released the details of how each company as well as the merged unit will be branded. Although the company will be called Sprint Nextel after the merger, the company will primarily use the Sprint brand. However the Sprint logo will be completely revamped using Nextel's gold and black colors, a new font, and a greatly revised "pin drop" icon. In advertising, the new logo will often feature a "Together with Nextel" tagline. The merged company will continue using the Nextel brand for the iDen network and handsets for the foreseeable future. Nextel's logo will remain the same, merely adding a "Together with Sprint" tagline below the Nextel name.

Hmmm...

Okay, I just read the whole article and it seems like Nextel is getting the raw end of the deal. Wasn't this supposed to be a merger of equals?

And why are they branding their products with different names? I know that they won't have a single network for quite some time but couldn't they just start branding everything as Sprint-Nextel at once? I guess using the seperate names will make the iDen and CDMA thing less confusing for consumers. 😕
so they have a new logo big deal...how does this help ethier company..Nextel will still be using iden (good for ptt) but not much else..and sprint will still have spotty coverage. At what point does coverage improve? how long before they merge with cd...

it is a merger of equals, but it helps both companies equally.

they are branding different products becuase they dont want to confuse customers/subscribers. (basically what you said)

Still waiting...

I'm still waiting to see if first, the merger will actually go through, and second, what improvements each side of customers will see. I know that nextel has some great buisness services like the credit card swipe and bar code scan, etc. etc. But If nextel is doing this to expand their network coverage, I don't see how this will majorly help their customers. I am basing this statement on the size of sprints OWNED network coverage, not their entire calling capable area. I can make a call from a sprint phone at my house, but if I want to use any data services such as vision, I can forget it. Just about every company is like this. If you get off of verizons owned network, you loose data capabilities too. Yeah, you can still make calls, b...

it will be atleast till 2007-2009 till they start to integrate their 2 networks together.

there will be great bennefits though..
1. increasing capacity and coverage
2. products/solutions
3. etc..

...

they still have to increase coverage/...

I like it.

I have to say that I like the new logo. It's pretty neat how they came up with the best of both logos, but why did they keep Nextel's colors?
I like it too. And the yellow and black "command attention". I just hope i dont have to wear a yellow shirt. It will pobably be a black shirt and a yellow logo, but who knows...
...
nextel has a better brand name and brand loyalty so they figured to include nextel's colors with the marketing campaign. makes perfect sense.

The new logo reminds me of...

Haha Yes I see the resemblence too. I think the new Sprint Nextel logo is kind of tacky. And the whole "Together With..." Slogan. Maybe its just me, but I dont like it, its not attractive.
Kinda reminds me of the ConocoPhillips logo... not the one you can find online, but the one one the service station signs...
They have their roots in railroad, from what i understand there name stands for

"Southern Pacific Railroad Information Network."

yuck.

I could see yellow on black I guess (like Nikon). but black on on a big pane of mustard? bleh. and c'mon, the best font they could come up with is Myriad? sheesh. they should've stuck with the old Garamond bold italic.

sorry. designer in me revolting.
at least it's still better than Verizon's awful logo. 🤣
i looked at the font and the first thing i thought was "oh gee, another myriad logo" then i thought "boring" then i thought, "isn't nextel in univers black? that would have looked cool."
