Qualcomm Announces Support For Linux

Qualcomm announced that they will support Linux on upcoming chips designed to provide a low-cost, single-chip solution for mid range mobile phones. Linux, while not popular yet, is gaining popularity on phones outside the West, especially in emerging markets where costs must be kept as low as possible. Qualcomm expects Linux adoption to pick up in more established markets as well. The first chip to support Linux is a CDMA 2000 model. Additional chips with Linux support will target advanced 3G networks such as EV-DO Rev. A, UMTS and HSDPA.
