Nokia CDMA Smartphone Surfaces

The FCC this week approved the Nokia 6638, Nokia's first Series 60 smartphone for CDMA networks. The phone sports a similar appearance to the Nokia 6630 3G phone for Europe and Asia, but contains completely different internals and slightly re-arranged side and function keys, as well as unique features for the U.S. market, such as an LED camera flash, an extendable antenna, a 2.5 mm headset jack, and E-911 capability. The 6638 is also Nokia's first phone with a full-size SD card slot; Nokia has previously used MMC and RS-MMC formats, although it announced support for the SD format last September. It is not clear which carrier will receive the 6638. The extendable antenna and lack of analog mode would be consistent with recent phones for Verizon, but the draft user manual includes multiple references to Java, the application standard used by Sprint. It is not clear if the phone will support EV-DO, although it does not appear to contain a Qualcomm chipset, and Nokia by most accounts does not yet have an EV-DO chipset of their own.

i think i have seen this phone before

6 months ago i had some nokia developers in my store and they had searies 60 phone with them that ev-do i am pritty sure this is the phone they had. it was pritty sweet they let me play around with it. i was amazed to see it because this is the first time i had seen a symbian phone for sprint. they told me though it was just concept model though and sprint might not carrie it.

the biggest draw back to the one i saw was it had no touch screen.
No Symbian Series 60 phones suppots touch screen. But Symbian UIQ does, which is found on the Sony Ericsson P800, P900, and P910. Im sure there are other phones with it but im just not sure of them.

Desire to know video specifications

Does anyone know video capabilities? I need a phone capable of playing Windows Media files (version 10). I have need to refer to videos on a media card, but want to get down to a single phone/pda combination device.

Main need is video playback and phone usage.
The nice thing about a smartphone (like this) is that you can always add software, such as alternate video players, if it doesn't support what you need out-of-the-box.

I'm not sure off-hand if there is a video player for Series 60 yet that supports...

I agree. I just started selling Verizon (I used to sell Cingular and TMobile) and I really miss having Series 60 phones to show off. They are such great devices and I too hope that Verizon gets this one, though I guess I'm kind of partial. I've got an...

Well, we all know if it goes to Verizon the SD will be crippled. If they haven't removed the bluetooth that will be crippled as well. I have the 6630 version of this i use on T-mobile and it's a great phone if you can use all the features. I think ...
