LG's latest QWERTY keyboard phone, the VX 9800 has been revealed in the FCC database today. The phone has an external numeric keypad with a 128x160 screen, and flips open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, stereo speakers and a 320x256 screen, much like the Motorola A630. The VX9800 is a CDMA handset and features EV-DO high speed data, a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, Mini SD and mpeg4 video streaming. The VX 9800 does not run a smartphone operating system, nor does its cousin, the F9100 which has already launched on Cingular.

verizon finally got a cool phone...wupty doo 🤭

Yes it is for VZW. VX is LG's carrier code for VZ, just like SCH is Samsung's carier code of VZ.

Verizon

I have currently have the Audiovox 6600 which is a smartphone and runs a windows OS. It is a great phon eas far as features but it takes me several clicks to do simple things and in my mind defeats the purpose of what a cell phone was originally meant for. I can't wait for the 9800 to come out with Verizon as I will buy it right away. Does anyone have any idea when this will come out on Verizon, i can't wait to get out of my 6600. Thanks.

This phone is Moto's next big thing. (Smartphone)

I think we need to be a little patient. Between the A630 and this phone, we finally see a form factor that can support a full QWERTY keyboard yet stay small enough to be a legit phone. While a PPC OS is prbably too much to ask for in a phone this small, I expect to see Palm or a Windows Mobile (WIndows for Smartphones) in a year. I give the edge to the Wondows Mobile OS because they don't need touch screens to function, and so far the form factor for these phones have a screen that is WAY to small to be fiddling with a stylus.
With the MPX getting scrubbed, I betcha this is what Motorola is working on. They need a smartphone to replace the MPX 220 (which was never sold in stores) and the make everyone forget the Greatest Phone That Never W...

I know im going to sound stupid

This phone looks sweet and I'm so glad its for VZW but whats all this stuff people are talking about like GSM or CDMA
They are 2 different kinds of standards used by cell carriers. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA carriers, and T-Mobile for example is a GSM carrier.

question!!

ay guys when it said this phone has a 320x256 screen, is that good, or is it gona be like the ****y a630, cuz ive seen the v710's screen, and on phone scoop it says it has a 176x280, so im think the 9800 screen is gona be really good, , and i wonder if it will have 256,000 pixels, and not 65,000 pixels!!, thanks
Dont't you mean colors, not pixels. Because 320x256 is 81,920 pixels.

Why isn't this a SmartPhone?

It seems to me that a phone with this much going for it really needs to be a SmartPhone to take advantage of the technology.
but LG isn't symbian or Windows mobile - so what OS would it be? No one would go for an LG OS, then again i hate LG. This does look cooler than the A630 though

It has Bluetooth! We hope...

Just found something on phonearena.com saying that info is scarce, but they do know that it is digital dual band that includes bluetooth.

We'll see.

Timing?

With VZW's new IN Messaging plans, the timing couldn't be better for this type of phone. (if only all my co-workers we on VZW too)

That said, any estimates on when we'll be likely to see this in stores?

clarification

the vx9800 is most definitely CDMA. although i mentioned it was EV-DO in the original text, i have now added cdma to the text to further clarify this. it is also most likely meant for verizon, as lg models for them start with VX, however verizon has not confirmed this.

as far as how verizon might limit this handset, there was no mention of bluetooth in users manual, so they can't ask LG to limit it if it's not there in the first place. Most likely if verizon does choose to limit features on this phone, it will be with regards to the mini SD slot. chances are you will not be able to save your photos or other content to a card, instead you will probably have to send them using Verizon's pix service to get them off the phone.

Sprint?

I know that the answer to this is probably "no chance in hell", but I'll ask anyhow.

What are the chances of this handset coming to Sprint? I've been looking for something with a large-format QWERTY keyboard (bigger than the PPC6600 or the Treao 650), and this looks like it might fit the bill.
I would probably say less than 5%, simply because it is an VX model which are for Verizon, but who knows, they might come out with a different verison as well

2 Questions

1) Speakerphone?
2) I was so excited to buy a Sidekick II. When will this be out?
well the SK2 is a major POS and should not compare to this phone.

Very Nice

the phone looks good. i currently have the A630 and this phone look almost the same. the stereo speakers are good and it has a video capability. too bad it is not on the GSM network
actually, thank goodness it's running CDMA! 😉
