Nokia Unveils New Luxury Phone

Nokia today announced the 8801 high-end tri-band GSM phone for the Americas. The 8801 is built using luxury materials, including a stainless steel body and stainless steel ball bearings for the unique pop-up mechanism. Scratch-resistant reinforced glass protects a 262,000-color TFT display with 208 x 208 pixel resolution. The 8801 also features special ringtones and alerts composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Features include an SVGA (0.5 megapixel) camera, video capture, Bluetooth, EDGE high-speed data (class 8), and speakerphone. An FM radio and music player with 64 MB of memory are also built-in. The 8801 will be available in the 3rd quarter. An 8800 version for Europe and Asia will be availble later this quarter. Nokia today also announced a Wireless Stereo Headset.

well i agree on the camera...5 mp? what is that? almost all the high end camera phones have 1.3mp and run about $200-300. hope this phone wont be over $400 ..ill be dissapointed

Durability?
Too many people look at just how cool the phone looks...we all know from the past that slider phones from the "Matrix Phone" to the LG 325 have all become well known for breaking very easily let alone becoming very annoying while trying to talk. Does anyone think this one will be any different? Especially since its from Nokia?
I must honestly disaggree on the breaking very easily. I bought a Siemens SL56 and it still works just fine, and the slider doesn't even feel lose at all. Plus I have a friend with the kyocera slider that only started getting loose after dropping dow...

IF you want a LUXURIOUS phone, buy a VERTU. Vertu phones have Platinum casing, Sapphire crystal screen, Laser cut keypads etc etc. This phone costs $3000. You can check you this phone at www.vertu.com

I think that phone is sweet as hell ! I LOVE those slide phones. And hell yeah that is going to be expensive, just look at it. But, $1000 I highly doubt it. I'm sure by the time it gets to a carrier, it will be around $500. I like to have phones that are different and that is certainly 1 of them. For someone who has the Razr, I would pick that 1 up in a heartbeat. To have the best phone, money is no object....... 😁
These are far from being the best phones (RAZR and this Nokia).
"Best" to me is when a phone has stats a little above par to most phone that are out there. Neither the RAZR or this Nokia have much above par compared to what else is out there, IMO....

😳 Judging by the looks of the article on Mobile Tracker (http://www.mobiletracker.net/archives/2005/0 4/07/nokia-8800-8801), this is going to be one hell of an over-priced, under-developed piece of equipment. I can agree that style is rather important, but paying the estimated price tag of $1000.00 should warrant serious improvements in functionality (I mean...a .5 megapixel cam for starters????). Anyone else think this is a bit pricey for a paper weight?

A 208 x 208 pixel, 262,000-color display is way better than most Nokia Series 40 phones. The only other Nokia non-smartphone with that good a display is the just-announced 6230i.

This phone sounds really interesting. Also sounds like it will be way more expensive than phones that do similar things. Will be interesting to see how it does
