hello guys! newbie here with a pretty basic question:

can GSM 850 cell phones work in China? I heard you need GSM 900.

I have a Nokia 3100 (triband) and a Samsung x427 (dual band) .. both support 850 but neither supports 900..

any advice? thanks!

reccomend upgrading or purchasing a quad band phone and just buying a prepaid service over their and using their sim card in your new unlocked phone because international long distance is so much cheaper, especially if it's a shorter trip over there unless you're going there repeatedly. Hardest part is making sure the phone is unlocked when you purchase it or get it unlocked for you...hope it helps.

850 work in North/South America and some caribbean countries. You need a phone with 900/1800 for Europe, Asia, Africa.

They should be able to under GSM. If you need to make calls from your home number and get the internet connection over there try voitel home phone service. Go to www.marketamerica.com/age and click on Voitel. Hope this helps.
