Moving from UK to US

My boyfriend is planning on moving to the US within the next year or two, and really wants to bring his current cell phone with him (Nokia 6170). I suggested putting a US simcard in it when we get our new cell plan. What phones have compatible simcards for it? Can you get the simcard separately?

Will this even work? 🤨

Your boyfriend's Nokia 6170 will work here in the US since it works on both 850 MHz and 1900 MHZ, the 2 standard frequencies used in North America. Unless his Nokia 6170 is already unlocked, he won't be able to us a North American GSM/GPRS wireless carrier until he does. Unlocking the Nokia 6170 pretty much will enable your boyfriend to put in any North American GSM/GPRS wireless carrier's SIM and us it for voice calls. Some data/internet features may or may not work and/or the Nokia 6170 may have to be configured for use with a particular carrier.

He probably has the eurasian version which does not have the 850 band. So, buy a tmoble prepaid sim when you get here. Because they use the 1900 band primarily.
